Thanksgiving 2019 and Pre Cruise Planners Convetion
Published Friday, November 29th 2019 - Updated Thursday, April 30th 2020It's Thanksgiving Day and I'm off to Ft. Lauderdale. I am going to spend a couple of days with friends in Wilton Manor and then head to CPCON19 (Cruise Planners Convention 2019)! Arose early, drove to Dallas Love Field and decided to try out the new parking garage C. Easy access, lots of open parking spaces and a walkway to the terminal. Very nice job!
The airport and the Southwest lines for baggage check were very light as was security. Guess Thanksgiving Day, or any holiday for that matter is a good day to travel! Making a note of that for future travel! Got my bag checked and through security in about 20 minutes, give or take 5.
Double checked my gate and flight status and headed to Cool River Café, my favorite place to sit, grab a cocktail and food at Love Field besides Starbucks of course. Ordered a mimosa (the first of 2!) and breakfast. Powered up my tablet to check email and do some Facebook posting. Well, that was brought to a halt. Apparently some issue this morning was Facebook and saw a few posts from others about it!! Wasn’t able to post, check in or do anything. Worked fine from home 2 hours earlier though! Didn’t let it get me down. Finished breakfast, my second mimosa and headed to the gate. Plane was there and everything still looked on time. And it was. In the air and headed east a few minutes ahead of schedule!! Great Job Southwest!!
Arrived in Florida, grabbed a Starbucks and then waited for luggage. Once I had my luggage, I headed to the area for Uber and put in my reservation. It was only about a 10-minute wait, the driver was very nice and the car was clean. Arrived at the Calypso Inn, my favorite B&B in Wilton Manors, checked in, partially unpacked and joined a few of the visitors and guests who had just finished a Thanksgiving lunch / dinner for a beer. Partially unpacked and got ready to head out for a few drinks before dinner.
My old friend John and I had dinner with another friend Bob at Kaluz on the intercoastal. Hoping to have their famous calamari in addition to the preset thanksgiving menu, but that wasn’t going to happen!! We did however have a wonderful Thanksgiving dinner overlooking the intercoastal. Started off with Butternut Squash soup, then onto the main course – Turkey (of course), stuffing, mashed potatoes, vegetables, rolls and cranberry sauce. Finished off with a delicious Pumpkin Cheesecake.
After all that with a couple glasses of wine, it was time to head back to the Inn and relax. All in all, it was a very nice Thanksgiving. Thankful for all my friends, family, family of choice and all the blessings I’ve had in my life this past year. Have a wonderful weekend!
