Who else besides me can say “I’ve never written a blog?”  I’m sure there are quite a few of you out there.  I don’t think it is anything to be ashamed of, but I do think it is time for me to give it a shot!  There are so many stories I could have told over the years and I will tell in the days and months to come, but I thought about it last night, and since I am new to the Cruise Planners family, I decided my first blog would be a little about me.  Sort of a get to know Robert (Rob) Hickman.

My first Travel Event August 2019

I grew up in a little town south of Pittsburgh, PA.  Growing up, we didn’t do much traveling.  There were a few trips:  one to see my grandmother in Vero Beach, FL with my family and then, when I was in high school, a trip to New York City for a theater weekend with a few fellow chorus members and our choral director. What fun for a 16 year old being in the big city!  Then it was off to college!  I graduated with an Accounting Degree and off to Connecticut I went for my first job.  Since then, I’ve lived in several states and ultimately ended up in IT as a business facing manager for finance. 

Over the years, my career afforded me the opportunity to travel to many states in the U.S of A., Canada and to several countries in Europe and South America.  All of these trips over the past 38 years is when I grew to love traveling and experiencing the culture, architecture and way of life outside of where I grew up.  I have been fortunate the past 19 years to go on several cruises including Alaska, Greece, the Panama Canal and the Eastern and Western Caribbean.  I fell in love with cruising just like all of you out there! 

You might be asking yourself, what got me interested in becoming a member of the Cruise Planners family?  Well, the obvious answer would be my love of travel!  But that is only a small part of it.  If I love to travel, why not put my energy and enthusiasm into getting to know new people, making new friends and help provide them the opportunity to not only have a memorable travel experience, but have someone working with them to find that special getaway while providing the ultimate customer experience from the first introduction to their return home.
